Just poking around the Internet, seems there are a lot of people who really hate Gary Brownfield. I think it was just in the paper that even after his raise this year, his salary is only like $44k, seems like a pretty thankless job for $44k, that sure ain't a ton of money these days.

Maybe those posts I keep seeing on other boards are just one person with a vendetta. I bet being Sheriff (or a cop in general) gets you a lot of enemies.

It's just like you said. Being a cop gets you enemies and being sheriff of the cops gets you all the cops enemies! There is no way to please everyone when you are a sheriff. Hard calls are made and people get pissed. What are you going to do.

A few years back he got a bad name when his son was hired in his department.

he also married his secretary or something like that, but before they got married he voted for a raise for her and should have obstained from the vote since he was romanticly involved, not illegal but not very moral in some eyes

I guess I have been out of the loop on this stuff, I need to review more. Tried to google for that son issue and didn't see anything, there's some reference to the married stuff though.

Usually this kind of garbage can be sorted and filed under jealousy. If you (or they) knew Gary, they'd like and respect him.

I don't know much about him, but I knew a Gary Brownfield many many years ago, and he is a really good guy, I bet this is him. I need to go back in the yearbook because I can't really remember what he looked like, my age is catching up with me.

But, if it's the same guy, I would also stand behind his character.

It's a shame that public service like this doesn't pay more. Being a cop means you meet almost exclusively bad people. Good decent people are never visited by the police. Makes you a hated person, and that's a shame. And, you deal with mostly low-lifes all day long.
