The playground, not the street is the place for these activities. If parents would take the time to ensure their children are not playing in the street unsupervised this would not be an issue.

As more and more parents fail to take personal responsibility for their children's and their own lives, government will step in and do it for them. The morons are ruining it for the rest of us.

Simple stuff really.

I was in OldBlazer's corner until he made reference to Big Brother. With or without an ordinance, the police do have the authority to take action, call it maintaining the peace. This isn't the 1950's. Gatherings nowadays present the significant potential for lots of bad things to happen.

I just see this as yet another insertion of the government into our lives. I see this extension of crowd control into street sport playing as unnecessarily intrusive when there are already laws that can be applied and enforced for this problem.

I'm guessing you're not opposed to snow removal, etc. by the government.

Not sure how that's a parallel at all... I am referring to LAWS that are being made, unnecessary ones that limit my (and your) freedom. Snow removal has nothing to do with any laws.

How exactly does "snow removal" relate to my point in any way?

If you are implying that I want anarchy, you are mistaken. Government has a purpose, snow removal may be one. But preventing my kid from playing hopskotch on a sidewalk because the cops can't keep other kids from playing basket ball on the street is over the line.

Wow, you replied quick... glad you didn't quote my message because I was re-editing when you replied.

This government thing is just one of my buttons, that's all.

I actually believe that there should be no law against any action that doesn't impact someone else. For example, the helmet law is ridiculous. People who don't wear helmets are crazy IMO, but it's not bothering me so more power to them.

Same thing with seatbelts.
