It appears that our new Governor wants to get off on the "right" foot. The budget does need balanced. I have mixed feelings. Alot of people in this county wanted good government jobs with all the bene's that go along with it.

I say take the same exact amount of pay-rates the prison workers would have made and invest IN MANUFACTURING.

I would like to see a facility built with the EXACT SAME PAYROLL and we actually build something. Make something. REAL GDP GROWTH. take dirt and one end and put something MADE IN THE USA that we will buy.

Dreams are the things the future is made of anyway.

And prisons are mostly (over 70%) populated in drug and drug related crimes. Decriminalize drugs , treat them as a medical condition, and those that want to do them give them a license to do so and take their driver's license and whatever else necessary and let them do "their thing" so long as it does not hurt or jeopardize the rest of us.

no mexican cartels, no corrupt cops, political officials, no cia drug profits etc etc etc.

Drugs are big business. For Government mostly. Yeah an occasional non "approved" dealer gets hard time and a few fools try to get rich quick, and those with the "addiction gene" will have a miserable life but that is no different than alcohol except that alcohol is legal. and the GOVERNMENT get their CUT of that too!

Folks my take is this anyone that can remember a steel workers pay and benefits in the 1970's is the last generation that can remember what the American dream could be and one with a good life and pays. When that can no longer be remembered the "slaves" will fully accept their servitude for minimum wage change and the socialist/ fascist NWO will "win". It may take another 20 years who knows. But to see the few people now in their 20's and very early 30's who have no idea of how good it used to be think what they are being deceived with today is the greatest life ever...then againthe young ones at CPAC voted RON PAUL and even FOX news had to try and deceived the flouride head sheeple with dirty tricks.

HISTORY YOUNG PEOPLE GOTO THE LIBRARY, GOTO SOMEONE 45 AND OLDER GOTO ANYONE WHO REMEMBERS.

Stand up for this country and say NO to a one world government. Get educated about how this country came into being. Study how Germany was 10 years prior to the start of WW2. Study the fall of ROME.

If nothing else when you goto Wal Mart and the TELEscreens start telling you what to do know that good things are not going to happen and very soon.

I absolutely agree with the decriminalizing drugs point. Prison savings alone would save unbelievable amounts of money.

I am not so sure about the manufacturing idea. We have evolved into a consumer society, things are made elsewhere. Problem is that you can't just consume forever without actually manufacturing anything, or the crap hits the fan. We are almost to that point now.

I've made this point several times in other areas, but will make it again in case anyone wants to try to dispute it.

What will save us is China's wages coming up closer to ours. As they get more pay, things made there will cost more, and eventually it won't make financial sense to offload manufacturing there.

People absolutely DO NOT have patriotism and loyalty to their country over greed for $$, they will take the cheap way out of any large purchase. There are the occasional few who may be the exception to the rule, but the general spending public will buy cheap Chinese widgets at Wal Mart over the more expensive American-made one every time when it gets right down to it.

What to do with the prison money instead of building a prison? Unfortunately I can't think of a better idea. I guess we could invest it into something manufacturing like you say, until the funds dry up and the plant can't maintain self-sustainability because of union wages and too high minimum wage. The plant would probably succumb to the Chinese counterpart in time.

I have to agree that the unions could cause a problem. If we just look at Wisconsin and now other states. Of course for a governor to absolutely favor DECERT as a way to combat unions is wrong. At least have a level or slanted field not take your ball and go home and refuse altogether.

ANd those of you that get SSI and are not disabled and you know who you are, technology has come a long way, we will find a place for your and a task for you, but we will not pay 3 state workers to make sure you work, cause its simple he that don't work don't eat..and there are alot of "disable people" that should be working.

All we need to remember is that when the tech exploded in the 90's we have a balanced fed budget for a few years.
