Hi everyone, I have built a virtual world on my server. It is called a MUD, or Multi-User Dungeon. You interact with this world as you did with text adventure games like ZORK, but there are many differences. First, the world goes on with or without you. The game does not sit still. Also, while you are in the game, all other players are present right there with you. You can talk to them, you can join forces with them and take quests, or you can just choose to ignore them and build your character on your own.
To enter the game you simply need to telnet to my server on port 4000. For users of XP, you already have telnet installed, just click START then RUN and enter this command in the box:
TELNET UNIONTOWN.COM 4000
Unfortunately if you have Vista, you may or may not have Telnet installed and working, however that's pretty easy to do, it just isn't installed by default. I will post detailed instructions for you on this at a later time when I am in front of my Vista machine, in the meantime I am sure there are pages you can Google on this.
Ideally, if you do decide to play the game often, you should consider a better terminal client. There are terminal clients made just for MUD's, Google is your friend. Myself, I will just use my Linux telnet or Putty.
Once in the game, you use commands like "take the lamp" or "go west" or "kill the snake with the sword", use the IN GAME HELP to assist you. You can also use Google for help with this game. This game is based on CircleMUD, a very popular MUD. There are many pages regarding this game on the Internet.
That's it for now. HAVE FUN, that's what it's here for. Tell anyone you know who might be interested in this, the more players we have in the better.
Be careful in the dark areas, you are likely to be eaten by a Grue!
