Post subject:  ELECTRICITY - ONCE CONSIDERED A PUBLIC UTILITY

WE HAVE A COAL POWER STATION SITTING IDLE IN MASONTOWN.

as many are becoming. And the concept of PUBLIC UTILITY meant the importance of such a service is considered so vital that it must be well regulated so as to provide what is best in the PUBLIC INTEREST.

Now a profit motive for the private corporation is the essence of Capitalism and what has allowed this country to thrive.

Yet about 20 years ago the IDEA that the power company is A PRIVATE CORPORATION entitled to make all the cash its shareholders can get!!!!!

Now deregulation has made that possible. our WEST PENN POWER that most of you think is GOOD OLE WEST PENN..is anything but. It's owned by First Energy....an 'interesting bunch" to say the least. So my question to all you 'RATEPAYERS' out there

How do you like paying the NUCLEAR LEGACY COSTS FOR NUCLEAR PLANTS IN OHIO AND other states.

Look my point is when local people are working for the good of local people first and then then everyone else we would ALL be better off. profit motive will always be important and ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!

But there are ways to do things without DESTROYING OUR OWN BACKYARD.
