Post subject:  Conquest lives! (Info and How To Join)

Back in the late 80's and early 90's there was a multiplayer game on the California University VAX system called Conquest. This game got a lot of gameplay in it's day, and it turns out that the source code is readily available to any who wish to compile and run it!

I have done just that on this Unix server, and have it running here on the Uniontown.com right now.

Newer versions of Conquest are using graphics instead of ascii, in the spirit of the classic game and genre we are using only the ascii version of the game. Screenshots of the Uniontown conquest can be seen below.

Details of this game can be seen here:

URLs rewritten, remove parenthesis (http:)//www.radscan.com/conquest.html

CURRENTLY I AM ONLY ALLOWING SPECIFIC REQUESTED IP RANGES access to the port because I am not convinced it's safe to open to all IP's in the world yet. Maybe once I get a good backup and hit the game with a fuzzer we'll see what we get.

OF COURSE I have already opened this to all of California University (158.83.*.*) for starters.

Anyone else, please email me at markc at uniontown.com with your IP address (you can get your IP address by visiting URLs rewritten, remove parenthesis (http:)//www.myipaddress.com) and I'll open it up for you.

**YOU MUST USE PUTTY AND NOT USE DEFAULT WINDOW SIZE in order to play this, default telnet window size just gives you an error and kicks you off, and happens so fast you can't see the error!

So, the steps to logging in are as follows:

First, your IP has to be one that I am allowing. Email me if unsure.

Second, open Putty. If you don't know what this is please Google for it. EDIT: It's attached below, see info at the bottom of this message.

Third, connect to uniontown.com using TELNET on port 5000 with Putty.

Next, as you are sitting on the Linux login prompt, but BEFORE YOU LOG IN, just stretch the Putty window so it's just a little larger than the default. Click the lower right corner and drag down and to the right. Doesn't need much.

The username to log in with is "cq" and the password is "conquest". The game should just run.

Any questions just ask!!!

EDIT: I am also attaching the free Putty program. See just above snapshot below.

Here's a screenshot in case you want to see what it looked like:
